From Samuel Vaughan, Jr. (unpublished)
London, 16 May, 1787.
Dear Sir,

With this I have the pleasure to send you a Treatise from Mr. Kirwan on Phlogiston, and Mr. Dilly’s Collection of your late Papers. The latter it seems has written for leave to reprint the 1st Vol of the Ame: Transns.; and I hope it will be granted by the Society as it is much wanted and will greatly promote the Sale of the 2nd Volume. The Purchasers of the 2nd Vol are a different set to those who purchased the first, and no one is willing to have an incomplete work, especially of the Nature of Transactions.

I have been here but two or three days, but have had the pleasure of seing Govr. Franklin, and Delivered Mr. Franklin’s Packet. Mr. Nairne is not at present in London. I beg my Compliments to Mr. and Mrs. Bache, Mr. Franklin &c and remain Dear Sir, Your devoted Servant

Samuel Vaughan Junr.

ps. I passed the Seas with your observations on Maritime affairs in my hand, and made two or three observations on them which had I time at present I would lay upon Paper. I will however do it shortly.
Addressed: His Excellency / Dr Franklin / President of the State of Pennsylvania
