From Jonathan Williams, Jr. (unpublished)
Dublin 25 June 1785.
Dear and honoured sir

There is a very fine new Philadelphia ship just arrived here and she will be ready to sail by the 20 of July. She is in every Respect such as I wish you to embark in, both as to safety and Convenience, and I am in treaty with the Owners to get her to call for you at Havre this day month. I cannot yet give you much encouragement as to my success, but I shall be able to write decisively by the next Packet, and only send this to induce you to suspend any other Determination two or three Days, when you will hear from me again. If I fail in this negociation I shall attempt none other of the kind, because I think their can be none more likely to suit you, nor any where the motive would be stronger on the other side. My Business here is not so near finishing as I wished, and as I have knavish People to deal with, I am inclined to think that the very circumstance of my waiting, is the one that tends most to occasion delay. I have therefore concluded to leave this as soon as I can make my Bargain about the ship, and my Plan then is to return with my little Boy and Baggage, close my Business, embark here, and meet you at Havre in such Readiness as to able to go to Sea the next Day with you and all yours on board. I will trouble you no more at present. I repeat I would not wish you to place too much Dependance on this plan because I should be sorry to disappoint you, nor do I wish you to let it affect any other you may have in view above 4 Days, when you will certainly hear from me decisively. Give my Love to Billy. I need not write him for this contains all I could say at present. I am as ever most dutifully and affectionately Yours
