Sir

As I was first Lieutenant on Board the Continantle Ship Reprisale, who had the honour to take you to france, I take the Liberty to call on you, for a few lines, to George Washington Presedent of the united States of America, or John Adams Vice President of the Same, in my favour, It will be of Great Service to me, in being a means to Procure me Some birth, or office, in the States, for I must apply for Some way to get my Living, and Provide for my family. I am a long time out of Employ, and my having but own arm, disenables me from gitting my Bread by hard Labour at Sea.

If you will be Pleased therefore, to Address a few lines to Either of the above gentlemen by Post, or if it Sutes you better, to deliver to the Bearer a few lines, he will forward it on to New york. He can tell you more fully of my Situation at Present. If you will be so Obliging as to grant my Request I shall Esteem it a Perticular favour. I Remain Sir your Obedient Humble Servant
