Lafayette to William Temple Franklin (unpublished)
Paris November the 19th. 1783
My dear sir

The object of my wanting a declaration of Independence is to Have it Engraved in Golden letters on the Most Conspicuous part of my Cabinet, and When I wish to [?] myself in Iglish, I will look at it, and Voluptously Read it over—so that you will oblige me to procure it for me, printed if you Can, in order that a french workman may be less apt to make Blunders

Most afectionately Yours

Lafayette
