George Fox to William Temple Franklin (unpublished)
L’Orient 5th. June 1783

You will no doubt be surprized, my dear Temple, to find that I have left Nantes in order to embark on board Capt. Shewell who sails with the first wind for Philada. The reason of my not waiting the departure of the Hannibal was the uncertainty of her sailing for several weeks—The Nancy on board of whom Capt. Hoops & myself take passage is ready at present to sail & we wait only a change of wind to leave the Port we touch at Lisbon but will meet with no detention there and of consequence we may arrive at Philadelphia before Cunningham I suppose that you have nothing new at Paris & as I can not hear from you till I arrive in America, I shall not trouble you with enquiries; I will therefore beg you to present my most respectful compliments to your Grandfather & in expectation that you will favor me with your correspondance when I shall reach America I assure you of my being my dear Franklin as ever Very sincerely Yours
