To Elizabeth Gaudin (unpublished)
Philada. Jan. 25. 1786
Madam,

I received the Letter you did me the honour of writing to me the 10th instant, respecting Money which you suppose due to you from the United States for the Service of your Husband. Having been absent from America during almost the whole War, I am quite unacquainted with those Matters: At present too I reside at a great distance from Congress, and cannot conveniently obtain the necessary Information, for making any Application in your favour, as you have sent me no Vouchers on which to found it. The best Counsel I can give you is to apply to the Massachuset Delegates in Congress, who on receiving a proper State of your Case, will doubtless do for you what shall appear to them to be reasonable. I am very respectfully, Madam, Your most obedient and most humble Servant

B Franklin

Mrs. Gaudin
Please to present my Respects to my good old Friend Mrs. Killcup.
