From Sir James Jay (unpublished)
Friday Evening
Sir

The accounts I received while I was in Holland, left me no room to doubt of my exchange being completed: for which reason I thought it unnecessary to wait for a formal confirmation of it from yourself; which illness, business, or accident might delay for a considerable time. I waited on your Excellency this morning to return you thanks for vesting me at liberty. Being disappointed by your absence of expressing my acknowledgments in person, I take up my pen to assure you that I am greatly obliged to you for the good office you have rendered me; and to request that you will accept of my sincere thanks on the occasion. I have the honour, Sir, to be Your Excellency’s Much Obliged and Most Obedient Servant
