To John Coakley Lettsom (unpublished)
Philada. May 15. 1788
Dear Sir,

I am very sensible of the Honour done me by your Medical Society in electing me a corresponding Member, which, tho’ done in July last, I was unacquainted with till the beginning of this Month. I suppose I owe this Honour to your Friendship; and I beg you would yourself accept, and also present to the Society, my thankful Acknowledgments. If it may be in my Power to contribute any thing towards the good Ends of their laudable Institution, I shall do it with great Pleasure.

I have many Obligations to you for the Books you formerly sent me, which are very valuable. I am sorry we have nothing of the kind here in which I can make adequate Returns: But if in any other respect I can render you either Service or Pleasure, you will be commanding freely, much oblige Dear Sir Your humble Servant
