Jonathan Williams, Jr. to William Temple Franklin (unpublished)
Nantes Augt. 23. 1782.

I recd my dear Billy Letter of the 11 in Course but my family Cares have prevented me from answering it sooner. The young Man you mention would be a [sur numeraire?] with me—he would therefore only change one situation for another just like it. It is an experienced Head I want, for I have plenty of hands. If he chooses to come hither at his own Exoence and live here at his own Expence, I will try to employ him & both he & and I will see in 3 months whether his Views & mine can be answered. but I can take no more Clerks into my House nor at my Table.

You may put all this into such Language as you think suitable and inform M Brillon with my respectfull Compliments I am my dear Friend affect Yours
