May it please Your Excellency,
Your School has already almost half its Compliment of Scholars. Nothing can give more general Satisfaction; particularly to the poor People who are more immediately benefited by Your Excellencys Bounty and Munificence. But Sir there is one thing I must beg leave to lay before You, I thought that perhaps a Night School would prove some addition to my annual Stypend, but the Sunday School will defeat that, as the Lads who would come at Night will be sent on Sundays. I find that it will be utterly impossible for me with the strictest Oeconomy to pay 7/6 per week for my Board which will amount to £45 per Annum and lay up any thing to cloath myself. If it be inconsistent Sir with Your plan to increase the Sallery, I believe I can manage So as to make it answer, by boarding myself in the Schoolhouse for there is a good Chamber upstairs, and there is a poor family in another part of the house who will prepare my tea for me for a small gratification, But Sir in order to put this little Scheam in execution it will be Necessary for You to advance me a quarters Sallery, for Sir tho I were to board in a Tavern (which is hateful to me) they would expect to be paid weekly, which would lay me under the Necessity of troubling Your Excellency frequently as I am quite out of money) and I will know that Your Hours are too important to have too many of them devoted to such small Matters. I enclose an Account of the previous expences to the Opening the School, to let You see how methodical the Business goes on, I send one of the admission tickets signed by Coll. Coats. I remain Your Excellencys most grateful Servant
