Alliance Texel Dec. 17th. 1779

I am, my dear Sir, to acknowledge your Sundry Kind favours from Amsterdam. I thank you for your advice, which, by my last as well as the inclosed, you will see I had followed before the appearance of your Letters. Let not that circumstance disquiet you, because I have made myself some Compliments on my thinking in many points so like the Experimental philosopher. &c.

signed J.P. Jones

Mr. Dumas, &c. &c
Le nom qu’il me donne d’ Experimental philosopher, est fondé sur une plaisanterie qui a cu lieu entre nous, et qui l’a diverti beaucoup.
