I had the honor to receive your Letter of the 24th. Febry. I wrote you in Answer directly, not hearing from you I suppose my Letter did not Get to hand.—His Excellency Doctor Franklin was so obliging as to write me that he would endeavor to Get the Commission which was taken from me at Dunkirk from Monsieur Le Comte de Vergennes, Or Grant me A Certificate that such a commission did exist. I Must request that you will speake to his Excellency about it. If equally convenient I would prefer A Certificate by producing which in America I might obtain a fresh Commission, being desirous of retaining My Rank in the Continental Navy, for which Service I quit that of my particular friends in which I might have had much Greater profits without risquing the Cruel treatment I have Received, by the Last Vessells from America I have Letters from the Gentln. and Crew Concearned in the revenge better to procure her Accounts from Messrs. Lagoan[ere?] & Co. Agents in [Cosinna?]. William hodge’. death Occasions A Confusion And Cant Come to Any Settlement I have wrote them Gentleman in [Corsinna?] Requesting Coppys of that Vessels Accounts, but can not Get Any Answer. I shall take it as A particular favour if his Excellency B. Franklin will write them Gentlemen Lagoan[ere?] & Co. for the Coppys of the Revenges Account, that Im Able to take them with m[e to A?]merica, to Settle their disputes, to many Respecting that Vessell I have the honor to remain Very Respectfully Dear Sir Your most Obd Servt
