Dear Sir

This will be handed to you by Major Porter a Gentleman who has a furlough from His Excellency Gl. Washington to spend a few Months in Europe—He is a worthy young Man & a brave officer as such I am sure you will notice him—He is an entire Stranger to the Country & Language I could wish you would be kind enough to give him your advice as you know Paris has been prejudicial to many of our Countrymen—In a day or two [I] shall sail pray present my respectful Compts to His Excelency & believe me Dr Sir Sincerely yours
