From Thomas Collins: Bond (unpublished)

Know all Men by these presents that, [in WTF’s hand:] I Thomas Collins of the Kingdom of Ireland [end WTF’s hand] am held and firmly bound to the President of the Congress of the United States of America, for the time being; in the Sum of two Thousand Pounds Sterling to be paid to the said president of Congress or his Order, in trust for the Use of the said United States: To which Payment well and truely to be done, I do bind myself, my Heirs, Executors and Administrators, jointly and severally, firmly by these Presents. Sealed with my Seal [blank space] dated the [in WTF’s hand:] thirtieth Day of September, one thousand seven Hundred and Eighty, & in the fifth Year of the Independence of America[end WTF’s hand].

The Condition of this Obligation is such, that if the above bounden,[in WTF’s hand:] Thomas Collins, who with others is Owner of the Sloop Newenham of about 60 Tons, bound from Dublin in Ireland to America [end WTF’s hand] Shall land the Goods mentioned in his Passport (a Copy whereof is hereunto annexed) in some port of the United States, not in Possession of the British Troops, The Danger of the Seas excepted, then this Obligation shall be void, or else to be and remain in full force & Virtue.
