James Moylan to William Temple Franklin (unpublished)
L’Orient 16th: Decr: 1782
Dear Sir

On rect: of your favor of the 7th: inst. I examin’d the Courier regarding the Double Louis wch: the Master of the House whence he lodged suspected to have been taken up, with some change he had given him.—The Courier is convinc’d that this mistake must have happened, as after paying his expences on the Road he found he had this sum more than he cou’d acct. for remaining: indeed he had mention’d the circumstance to me on settling his acct:, wch: was some days previous to the reception of your Letter and seem’d to think you had given him twelve Louis in the place of ten wch: you advised me to have paid him, wch. shews that he had no intention to defraud him, he has in consequence return’d me the Two Louis, wch: you will please to repay the Tavern Keeper or I shall deduct them & the Ten Louis you gave the Courier from the charge of that expence in the Ship Gl. Washington’s acct. with sincere esteem I remain Dear Sir Your most obl. hl. St.
