William Carmichael to William Temple Franklin (unpublished)
Paris 15 April 1784
Dear Sir

I was in hopes to have answered your Letter of this morning in Person & to have thanked you for the notice it contained—I had given the Letter therein mention’d to one of our friends to be delivered to Mr. Rayneval, but he thinking that it would be more proper for me to deliver it in person, as it was given me as an Introduction to that Gentleman I kept it in hopes of being able to go to Versailles this week. The hint you gave me on Sunday induced me not to accompany the Marquis on Tuesday & I am now so much engaged by the business which brought me to Paris, that I know not when it will be in my power to go to Court. I therefore inclose you a letter for Mr. Rayneval which I beg you to forward to him Immediately. With respectful compliments to your Grandfather & with thanks for your obliging offers of service

I am Dr. Sir Yours Affectionately

Wm. Carmichael
