Sir

The Board of Admiralty of the United States having given orders that the Continental frigate Alliance should return to this port, I have permission to Ship by her two or three Boxes or trunks containing some articles for my use which will be deliver’d to you by Mess. Penet & Co. Merchants at Nantes, which I request you will receive on board and put in such place as that they will not be subject to dammage or embezzlement. Be so good as to direct your Master to sign bills of Loading for them and this letter will be full Sufficient Authority for your acting agreeably to this my request. I am Sir Your very humble Servant Signed
