The Petition of William Wistar of the City of Philadelphia Merchant in Behalf of himself and others Creditors of John Garret of the same City

Respectfully Sheweth

That Whereas the said John Garret using and exercising the Trade and Business of a Cutler by buying of Iron and Steel and working up and converting the same into Scythes and selling the same when so worked up and converted as aforesaid, and seeking his Trade and Living by such buying and selling upon just and good Causes, being indebted to your Petitioner in the Sum of Two hundred Pounds and upwards of late that is to say on or about the ninth Day of August Instant did become Bankrupt within the Meaning of the Act of Assembly of this Commonwealth lately made and provided entitled. An Act for the Regulation of Bankruptcy. In Tender Consideration whereof May it please your Excellency to grant unto your Petitioner a Commission under the Great Seal of the Commonwealth to be directed to such and so many wise honest and discreet Persons as to your Excellency shall seem meet authorising them thereby not only concerning the said Bankrupt his Body, Lands, and Tenements, Goods, Debts and other Things whatsoever but also concerning all other Persons who by Concealment Claim or otherwise do or shall offend touching the Premises or any Part thereof contrary to the true Intent and Meaning of the said Act for the Regulation of Bankruptcy To do and execute all and every the Thing and Things whatsoever as well for and towards Payment and Satisfaction of the said Creditors as towards and for all other Intents and Purposes according to the Ordinance and Provision of the said Act of Assembly for the Regulation of Bankruptcy. William Wistar of the City of Philadelphia Merchant maketh Affirmation and saith that John Garret of the City of Philadelphia Cutler is indebted to this Deponent in the Sum of Two hundred Pounds and upwards which Debt arose upon a Transaction subsequent to the Sixteenth Day of September last past, and that the said John Garret is become Bankrupt within the Meaning of the Act of Assembly lately passed entitled An Act for the Regulation of Bankruptcy as this Depenent is informed and verily believes and further saith not.
