Benjamin Vaughan to William Temple Franklin (unpublished)
London 5th. March: 1785.
My dear Sir,

My brother in law Mr. William Manning whom perhaps you saw in England is going shortly to the West Indies, & wishes to procure letters of introduction to Monsieur Le Comte De Damas Governor of Martinique, & to the Governor of Tobago, I should be obliged to you to get them & send them as soon as convenient.

I am so overwhelmed with business that I have been obliged to employ a blundering secretary, who always executes every thing in the most direct manner possible & in as few words, indeed you would easily discover this if I had not mentioned it, as I should have tired you with two or three pages containing less than the first paragraph of this, & have detained you from more important business & from the pleasing intelligence that I am Your Obedt: hum: servt: & affectionate friend

Benjn. Vaughan

My wife has been very wicked, however the business she has announced is of much consequence to her & to her family as well as to myself.
