William Pyne to William Temple Franklin (unpublished)
Princeton Feby. 3rd. 1786
Dear Sir

This is the first Post for Philadelphia since I had the pleasure to receive yours which was Tuesday last. I am highly Obliged by so particular an account and Description of your Estate, and no less so by your proposals which are fair and Liberal. The second would be the most advantageous but as my Health is precarious, shou’d I fail, I should be very sorry that my Wife should be entangled or encumbered in a Business that she is totally Ignorant of, therefore I must set that thought aside. and consider your first proposal more at large.

However in my Opinion it will be best to take a View of the Farm first, and see the Habitation you chuse I should occupy we can then discuss particulars and be better able to Judge how far it may be agreable to both Parties. At the same time it will be necessary to inspect the Farm for other reasons Such as to see its present condition, if there is any Manure already upon it if there is any Ground fit to receive Barley or Oats &c &.

If the Weather is clear and dry and the Roads get a little less Rough I will go to Philadelphia in the course of Ten days and do myself the Honor to wait upon you it may then be fixt to go together to Burlington as Convenient to you in the interim if any thing occurs to you necessary to be done or thought of previous to my coming I request you to favor me with the knowledge of it.

I must Join with you Sir in hoping that some agreement may take place as from the knowledge I already have of your Character and Politeness I doubt not but I should be perfectly satisfied under your Auspices I am Dear Sir Your Most Obedt. Humble Servant

Wm. Pyne

Mrs. Pyne desires your acceptance of her best Compliments p s. If it should be more agreable to you Sir I will give you the Meeting at Bristol and go from thence to Burlington any day next week that you appoint so will wait your answer The Post comes in here on Monday and Friday Nights
