A Prince from Mecca with this Monarch, by name Mulai Ali, has ordered me in the name of his Imperial Majesty to give Intelligence to your Excellency, that as soon as the Treaties of Peace shall be signed by both the Parties; That immediately his Majesty as a Proof of the good Friendship he has for the United States, will obtain a Peace for them, with the Grand Signor—This generous offer of his Imperial Majesty, I do not believe to be far distant, the aforesaid Treaties being once signed: The Which, cannot fail of being useful to their Navigation and Commerce. For the interim, this Honorable Trust affords me the opportunity of tendering to the Honorable Congress, my slender Services in this Court, fully persuaded that upon Occasion, they will please to avail of my Offer. I have the Honor to enclose to your Excellency Two Sheets of Letters wrote to his Excellency Franklin at Paris to the Contents of which I refer; and with the most profound Respect I assume the Honor of declaring myself Your Excellency’s Most Humble, Devoted and Obedient Servant
