Honoured Sir

The many evident instances of your Superior judgment and lively penetration, are sufficiently demonstrative to the eyes of the world in general, And must of course very Cordially reach the knowledge of that Noble Body whome prudence guided to the Adoption of a person so worthy the confidence they repose in you. In my humble oppinion every individual whose case can honour them with a title of application to so Worthy an Ambassador as you, must receive (If they can conceive the same idea that engage me thus far) Ample satisfaction and redress, Accompanied by every Generous maxim that may serve to compleat their wishes. What has proned me to address your worthiness at present I have to observe; but altho’ being a matter of great weight to me and my friends, We still enjoy the pleasing Notions that convey the Above remarks.

! As Providence has Vouchsaf’d success to the Arms and demand of a just People, doubtless the next that follow your good and Powerfull endeavours will be that of encouraging every degree of Industry, and every professor thereoff, to the welfare and Independance of the United States of America, whose fame will in time reach the Utmost corners of the Universe.

As such the motive; give me leave Worthy Sir to Acquaint you, that I have a Brother, Sister, Espouse and Self, who Ardently wish to get Our passage to somewhere near Newyork; As supposing all Hostilities near an end between America and England And finding that place, or its environs, to contain the object in View. No doubt America will soon procure herself every priviledge that a free Country can wish for, And as one capital point necessary in such case, The Art of Mineing and discovering all kind of Mines, such as Gold, Silver, Copper, Brass, Led, Tin, Coals, &ca., &ca., For the use of Coining and all other Uses such commodities are requisite.

I have the honour to offer my Services and them of my family as far as our knowledge and experience can extend, As Miners, Engineers, Architects, and Professors of sundry Arts and Siences. All which can no other than tend in a great degree to the Welfare and prosperity of the State.

My conexions in this Kingdom has been chiefly with the East India Company as a furnisher; They can give testimony of my Integrity.

Lastly what I have to request of your honour in my behalf and the aforenamed Part of my family, is that you wou’d be kind enough to feel tenderly the Above motives which Excite me to Crave your honours protection and a recommendation to the Congress. With an Authority to Pass on board the first ship (with our Small effects) that shall depart from France belonging to that Honourable Power; and hope you will please to appoint us such, so as to go free of any charge for our Passage out.

So that being protected by you, and the facility of our going thither being fix’d (Interim if my Services in any shape, such as Secretary or other, can be made agreeable to your honour; I shall be glad to receive your Commands, Am well vers’d in the french Language). There will then remain incumbent on us beside our Atchievements, in which we hope to meet success, and that we pray might appear in time redundant to the honour and satisfaction of our Protectors, The honour and welfare of the United Provinces of America; And for the good of all thereto belonging. We shall Pray for the lengthening of your Days in       and happyness, honour and Success; and that you may Arrive at the haven of all yo[ur] wishes in this Life. These are the sentiments of your Honour’s most Obedient Humble Servant
