No. 19.

Philadelphia 18th. Septr. 1782
sir

Just after closing my dispatches, I was favoured with yours of April and the 25th. and 29th. of June. The ships that brought them were so unfortunate as to be chased into the Delaware by a superior force—The Eagle was driven a shore and sunk—the Papers and Money were however hapily saved and part of the Crew, but Captain Latouch not having been since heard of is supposed to be taken—The other ship has arrived safe with all the Passengers of both Ships.

As I am just about to leave town for a short time, I will not touch upon the important subjects mentioned in your Letters which will on account of my absence be committed to a special Committee. I would only observe to you, that the Resolution (Ca No. 4) in my last shews the sense of Congress on the subject of money matters 357.and 495.will 215.ur120.ge 522.you 379.to 134.fol208.low 569.their 583.In213.str543.uc239.tions 642.at 485.all 260.Even559:ts: 338.on 569.their 38.su55.c55.c42.ess 241.d539.ep228.ends 141.be169.ing 422.able 379.to 180.go 338.on 68.if 19.the 658.War 250.con50.ti416.nu42.es 417.or 370.sha365.s 352.it 102.down 583.in 2.Peace 68.if 2.Peace 153.sho392.ul241.d 187.come 191.an 272.Army 143.is 206.not 379.to 141.be 78.dis650.ban241.d80.ed 548.with93.out 460.Money 122.nor 143.is 460.Money 379.to 141.be 180.go559.t 583.in 140.a 383.Country 78.dis510.tre365.s365.s80.ed 140.as 280.ours 143.is 159.untill 258.we 142.have 418.had 140.a 384.li559.t559.t640.le 195.br30.ea19.th619.ing 527.sp27.el

You will see by the anexed Resolutions, that Congress have refused to accept Mr. Lauren’s resignation, and that they have made some alteration in your powers—I send the paper which contain the little news we have, and am Sir with great Respect and Esteem your most obedient humble Servant
