Jonathan Williams, Jr. to William Temple Franklin (unpublished)
Boston 17 Nov. 1785.

The Letter on the other side my dear Billy is from a Friend of mine, whom I wish much to oblige. Pray give me an early Answer to the Contents after you have consulted the Doctor.—If you have your Bill Books with you it will be well to check the Bills & give Certificates per quadruplicata, that they were not paid during the Doctors Administration. This is certain however without examination as the whole sett of 4 Bills exists in the Possession of the Gentleman mentioned. I thought Mr Jefferson would do this Business in course after the Doctors Resignation, if this is not now understood it is necessary for the Honour of the Bills yet unpresented that he should as speedily as possible have that Power vested in him & Directions given accordingly.—

I am my dear Friend most affectionately Yours

J Williams J

that the Examination may be easy I have advised my Friend to send one of the Bills under this Cover.
