To James Bowdoin (unpublished)
Philada. Sept. 27. 1786
Sir,

The Bearer, Monsr. Dejean, is well recommended to me by some very respectable Personnages in France, and being a Stranger in Boston, has requested of me a Line of Introduction to your Excellency. He lived formerly at Detroit, where he still has a Habitation and Family, but being obnoxious to the English Government, he cannot return thither till that Part is evacuated. His Knowledge of that Country and Influence with the neighbouring Indians may be of use to these States in a future day; and I beg leave to recommend him to your Excellency’s Civilities and good Counsels. With great Respect I have the honour to be, Sir, Your Excellency’s most obedient and most humble Servant

B Franklin

His Excelly James Bowdoin Esqr.
