My Lord

There is nothing as happy for the Saxon merchant as the Idea to be able to negociate with a peaple who freed himself in such a distinguishing manner as the american did, nor can any other thing be wish’d for with greater vivacity than the felicity of establishing for ever the friendliest and directest Trade with all the united states of America.

Our Court, as we are knowing, has made by her ambassador at the Court of Versaille, some propositions to the same view, and some Trades men of our Patriot waiting the money we may join together in a united society, did send considerable part of Linnen in America. In such a position, a house as ours, whose greatest greatest part of Trade are even this of Linnen Can’t be an idle spectator of so many well imagined speculations our friends are imploy’d of, nay We shall do more then others, being provided of suffizient money and possessed at the same time with all the Knowledge required to such a Trade. But we want yet these of necessary directions to the best merchant house in a Land we are still so very few acquainted with, as that of american and we must therefore begin with Entreating Your Excellency by this respectfullest Letter, to give us the name of the most renown’d of them fix’d at Philadelphia or other harbourys, and to add Your Recommendation by the very Same, with wich we desire to trade and to Confide them if necessary Certain Summs. If at the same time Your Excellency would have the grace to articulate the different Specia of Commodities the most convenient to the present necessitie of their Republicains, and those we Could expect from there for our propre use, we should aknowledge it with gratitude and make as Soon as possible the first Sending by the way of hamborough, as the best harboury we can make use of.

We are Capable in every Respect to show to Your Excellency our whole Capacity in such a manner, as to render her intirely Satisfied for having given us a proof of Bounty we have the honour to ask her with Confidence and all the hopes of not being refused. We have the honour to be with the respectfullest Consideration My lord To Your Excellency the most humble and most obedient Servante
