From Henry Johnson (unpublished)
Baltimore May 28. 87.
Sir

I should not take the Liberty of addressing you, did I Know to whom else I should do it.

There were some prizes carried into France, by the Reprisal, Lexington and Cutter, some of which were put into the hands of Mr. Thomas Morris deceased. Since thro trifling into the hands of Cornic there into Cornic’s hands he accounted with the Comissioners for at Paris. Notwithstanding which I have been Charged with all moneys received of them.

I shall esteem it a perticular favour of your Excellency if you would inform me whether you think that there’s a probability of the affair ever being settled. If there is but One Shilling due us, I think we ought to have it. If Mr. Morris spent it, there’s an End of it. If the Comissioners received the whole of the prizes we ought in Justice to be accounted to, for our proportions. The officers what few are left, with the people who I often meet with think that I have received the whole of the moneys and intend keeping them out of it or in plain Terms defrauding of Course its a disagreeable Situation to be in. I am Your Excellencys Most Obedient Humble Servant

Henry Johnson
