June 17th: 1787
Sir

Upon application to the Honble. Robert Morris I am recommended to address you. That as I have proposed a set of fire works to be performed at the City Tavern on the 4th July next in honor of our Independence & more especially on account of the probability of the Commander in ‘Chiefs’ being here, as no fireworks whereby damage may arise is made, the chief intended as a brilliant scene, have taken the liberty to request a small encouragement from the Honorable Council to enable me to perform agreeable to this intent, your approbation to this will ever lay me under great obligation. With great respect I am Your Excellency’s Most Obedient Servant

John Lauguay.

Addressed: His / Excellency Benja. Franklin Esqr: / President of the / Honble. Supreme Executive Council
Endorsed: 1787 June 17th Petition of John Lauguay
