Sir

About two Months Since I wrote A Letter design’d for you by favour of Mr. Denuveal of Amsterdam was advis’d by a friend to desire him to Convey it to you as the most likely means to reach you but on enquiring several times Since and finding no Answer Makes me doubtfull whether or not he sent it as it Containd a very interesting article respecting trade which possibly he would rather have Establish, here than in America. It is a method by which I can Colour Cotton Wool yarn or manufactur’d Goods of the Cotton Kind from a pink to a Scarlet or Crimson &c &c an art for which England France and Spain offer £10000 Each and which has never yet been done in either Kindom or in Europe Except by myself. I never yet Saw so good Colours as my own on Cotton even from Turkey the only place in the World Where it is known to be done.

I Left Endland the 23d day of August 78 Intinding for America with many Reccomendations to Eminent people in that Country but have hitherto found it Impractible to reach thither. I hope therefore    kind assistance as I would rather place myself and Family there in a ssing way and with me Carry my Secret than Obtain the premium from Either of the above Kingdoms as there is no place under Heaven I    wish to Live or Die in as America. My zeal for it in England lost a good Fortune there. My zeal for it in America I hope will in some Measure Compensate for my Losses in England and that my highest Wish may come to pass that is the Settleing a Large Worthy Family on that side the Water we are 8 of us 4 Males and 4 Females. May God preserve You and my belov’d Country and its Deffenders And Incline you to lend me that assistance that a Long Continuance in Holland has depriv’d me of I am Sir your Most Obedient & humble Servant

James White

ps As it is a Matter of Such Consequence And my Situation so disagreeable it is Necessary My departure hence may be Expedited   as possible otherwise must much against my will apply to Sir Joseph York for my return to England. If your Excellency shou’d Vouchsaf me your Answer or Should desire to see me I would gladly see you at Paris but ’tis impossible for me in my present Circumstances to bear the Expences of the Journey. Otherwise I would long since Endevour’d to have laid my Case and intention before your Excellency. n b I Believe my Character will Stand the Strictest Scrutiny Among the    of America in England and held in Essteem by her friends there. If you write please to Direct for me as Under
To James White Carpet Maker at Haarlem to be Left at Hans Christians at the English Flagg Schipper Street Amsterdam
Sir I hope your answer in ten days or a fortnight at farthest
