George Fox to William Temple Franklin (unpublished)
St. Florentine April 24. 81
My Dear Temple

To what must I attribute your silence. Neglect I am sure it is not—Sickness, I hope, has not prevented your writing me, & the miscarriage of my Letters, alone can have deprived me of the pleasure of hearing from you. Twice my dear Friend have I wrote you since my convalescence, without receiving a line from you. This, I must confess, has given me pain, & nothing but the recommencement of our Correspondance can bring back that pleasure which your agreeable Letters have always occasioned. Permit me, then, to sollicit a speedy return of your favors, & a continuance of your friendship which has ever been, not a little, conducive to my happiness. Mayo & Foulke continue also silent—All I imagine, from the same cause, as I wrote them at the same time which I wrote you. Since writing this I have received a Letter from Mayo, to whom I can not write by this Post, as I am under the necessity of making a few Visits: You will therefore be good enough to make him my Compliments & assure him of my intentions of writing him on Thursday. Adieu my dear Classmate & believe me to be Yours assuredly

Geo Fox

ps. Shall I trouble you to make my most respectful Compliments to your Grandfather, & assure Drs. Bancroft & Foulke as well as all my acquaintance of my remembrance of them.
