David Salisbury Franks to William Temple Franklin (unpublished)
Wednesday Evening 22 June 1785.

Give me leave my dear Sir to inform you of my present situation. the disappointment I have met with in my expectations form Marseilles has determined me to go to America, to effect this with Honor I must pay some debts here. The Person who has my Affairs in his hands at Philada. has most cruelly neglected me, so that I have not the means of clearing myself of Paris; let me entreat you to request your Father to advance me what money may be necessary here to suffer me to go home with him—soon after my Arrival at Philada. I shall repay him with the highest Gratitude—You have no Idea of what I have suffered from the neglect I have met with from home. I had no right to expect such disappointments as I had put my little Affairs in tolerable train before I came away—My Spirits & Health are both affected by it—it is the first time in my Life that I have been in such a position—for God’s sake dont forget me, let me hear from you—& believe me to be Dear Franklin Your very sincere friend & humble servt
