Dear Sir

The Bearer of this letter, is our ingenious country man, Mr. John Trumbull, who has resided in London to study painting, and I have the happyness to acquaint you and his countrymen in general that through force of genius and industry he has allready Attained that Excellence in painting which places him in the first class of men of that profession now living. He visits his native Clime to perpatuate the faces of some of his distinguishd Country men and I hope he will meet with their approbation both as a Gentleman and an Artist of equal worth and Esteem.

My two sons are in switzerland and in health. Mrs. West is at windsor, where I visited the greatest part of the summer months, she is in health, and desires to be kindly remembred to you. I am Dear Sir Your Obedient Humble Servant
