From — de la Mothe du Pin (unpublished)
February 5th 1779
Sir

I Should have had the honour to present you my duties in that beginning of the year, had I not been unhappily prevented of it by an Illness, Which retain’d me at home ever Since past Six Weeks, and does not leave me yet to Satisfy my inclination in doing it. And, Indeed, I am not a little deprived by this Since, out of one Side, of my endeavouring to hear from the Success of the letter that I depend upon you write on my account to the president of the Congress in Georgia; if answered, I Should be Very glad, of the other, to enjoy the pleasure of knowing by myself of your precious health, So as Making you Sensible of the true respectful feelings wherewith I have the honour to be Sir Your most humble and obedient Servant
