William Temple Franklin to John Shaffer (unpublished)
Passy 9 Sept 1781
Dear Sir,

My Grandfather directs me to inform you, in Ansr. to you Letter of Yesterday, that it will be very agreable to him to assist you in settling your Affair with M. D’autun Le Sage; but that before he can write the Letter you request of him, it will be necessary for him to look over again the Papers he put into the Hands of your Interpreter, who was to have got your Remarks thereon & return them immediately. Two days have elapsed & they are not yet come to hand. If therefore you will procure & send back those Papers together with your Observations; My Grandfather will without loss of time examine the Affair & endeavour to bring M. d’Autun le Sage to a speedy settlement.

With great Regard I have the honor to be, Dr Sir &ca—

Mr. Shaffer
