From John Hancock (unpublished)
COMMONWEALTH OF MASSACHUSETTS.
Council Chamber, Boston. April 3, 1788.
Sir:

The General Court of this Commonwealth have thot it expedient to repeal their resolution passed 8th of February, 1787 offering a reward for the apprehending Daniel Shays, Luke Day, Adam Wheeler, and Eli Parsons, the principals and abettors of the late Rebellion and that the same together with the proclamation issued in consequence thereof to be annulled. And I am requested to inform your Excellency thereof and to request you to recall the proclamation which you was so obliging as to issue relative to the subject and which was the means, under Providence, of restoring Peace and Harmony to this state, and will be ever gratefully acknowledged. I am, Sir, With great Esteem, Your Excellency’s Most obedient humble Servant.

John Hancock.

His Excellency Benj. Franklin, Esqr.
