Manchester August the 19th. 1784

My dear sir your Letter of the 11th. of August reaches me at Manchester unfortunately 200 Mils from London, otherwise would certainly repair to town to have the pleasure to be with you during your Stay in London. I am going to muster up all the information I can give you for you to enjoy the Metropolis as much as the dead season of the Summer will admit. I hope it is not merely on account of pleasure that you are come for you’d be Sadly disappointed. first unless you mean to représenter a Carriage is perfectly useless, for you never can dress in summer without being Stared at & thought formal.

You cannot have better Lodgings than those I just left, answering to a Nail the Description you gave me. they are in Pall Mall N 45 at Mr. Jones price a Guinea & a half per Week. With regard to a footman if Vaughan or your friends dont give you one apply to Mr. Morris Ld. Pembroke Steward at Pembroke house: tell him I beg he will assist you in that.

Thomas, Leather Breeches Maker, corner of James St: in Long Acre
Cuningham, Hatter, top of St. James Street

Old Gray—in Bond Street

Good Taverns, Wood’s Hotel Covent Garden the Cocoa Tree in Pall Mall. See Vauxhall, Renelagh, the Pantheon, go to Greenwich by Water, & when lewd go to the two following safe Girls who I think are very handsom, Missrs. Robinson, No. 19 Bury Street, & Mrs. Crawford N 73 Queen Ann Street East or West I forget which.

If you have time my good friend go you back by Brigthelmston & Dieppe & you’ll be vastly entertained.

You can not conceive how disappointed I am at missing you in London, how [illegible] I must submitt. I hope your Grand father is well. my duty to him & believe me with uncommon friendship my dear sir Your’s for ever
