From Enoch Story, Jr. (unpublished)
Old State House Monday morning [c. 1786]

Permit me the honor of presenting to your Excellency, the inclosed Poems written by William Smith, Attorney at Law, of Pennsylvania. There are some little errors in the printing and binding, which I flatter myself you will excuse, as they were done in a great hurry. If this little vol. meets with encouragement, I shall present the public with a Second much more to my satisfaction.

I am about publishing the Travels of Mr. Bartram Bottanist. I have inclosed proposals for the same and hope it will meet with your approbation, Mr. Bartram wishes that it might be dedicated to you as his father had the pleasure of being acquainted with you and professed the highest esteem. I am very desirous that this curious work should not perish for want of encouragement and make no doubt but you will use your influence. I am Sir with all due respect Your humble Servant

Enoch Story Junr.

I have some of the cuts viz the India Warrior, the Paroquet of Carolina and the Franklinia which are done by Mr Bartram in etching for the Vol. If you choose can let you see them.
Addressed: Doctor Franklin
Endorsed: Mr Story Printer.
