Utzschneider, Joseph (1763-1840)

Bavarian government official and entrepreneur.

Introduced to the patronage of Maria Anna, Duchess of Pfalzbayern, by his uncle, the Duchess’s secretary and treasurer. Confidential secretary to the Duchess’s cabinet, member of her cadet corps (1778-80), and bailiff of her dairy pasture (1782).

Later became a prominent government administrator, specializing in agronomic issues. Established a brewery and factories for leather, glass, cloth, and astronomical instruments.

Son of Andreas and Maria (Andree) Utzschneider. Educated at the University of Ingolstadt. Ennobled (1808).
