Introduced to Franklin by Elie de Beaumont. His bust of Franklin (1777) was the first sculpted after Franklin’s arrival in France. An American enthusiast. Member of the Société libre d’émulation, founded in imitation of the Royal Society of Arts (1776).

Prominent among the Jacobins. Involved in the conservation of monuments during the French Revolution.
