Writer, translator. Commissaire de la gendarmerie at Nancy.

His successful work, De la passion du jeu, depuis les temps anciens jusqu’à nos jours, attracted the attention of the French parliament, which soon thereafter abolished gambling houses. Friend of Rousseau, d’Alembert, and Le Roy. Became involved in politics during the French Revolution. Wrote his account of the taking of the Bastille, De l’insurrection parisienne et de la prise de la Bastille (1790).
