Ship builder.

Aided the French government in reorganizing the naval administration (1771). Capitaine de vaisseau in the French navy (1772).

Introduced and recommended to the American commissioners by Jacques-Donatien Le Ray de Chaumont and the Grand brothers.

Signed a contract with the commissioners for a large frigate to be constructed in the Netherlands for the Americans (February 1777). The contract also provided that Boux would accompany the frigate to the United States, where he would serve with the rank of Commodore. The frigate, the Indien, was eventually sold to the French government (November 1777).
