Garrigues, Isaac (b. 1741)

Mariner.

Born into a prominent Philadelphia Quaker family. Grandson of James Ralph, who accompanied Franklin to England in 1724 and remained there, deserting his family and marrying again. Appealed to Franklin for information about his grandfather’s second family and will (1762). Married outside the Quaker community and was disowned by the Philadelphia meeting (1763). Franklin later helped Garrigues get a maritime post, but Garrigues, dissatisfied with his low rank, quit the job and appealed to Franklin to help him get another post (1771).
