Coombe, Thomas, Jr. (1747-1822)

Anglican clergyman and poet. Son of Franklin’s friend, Thomas Coombe, Sr.

Went to London (1768). Ordained in the Church of England (1769). Returned to Philadelphia (1772).

Elected to the American Philosophical Society (1773). Coombe’s religious convictions prevented him from fully supporting American independence.

Returned to England in 1779 and remained there until his death.

Born in Philadelphia. Married in 1773 to Sarah Badger.
