Laneuville, Louis-Pierre Penot Lombart, chevalier de (1744-c. 1800)

Officer in the Continental army.

Lieutenant in a Paris militia battalion before age of six (1750). Captain of same militia (1759). Served during the Seven Years’ War and in Martinique (1768). Created a chevalier de Saint-Louis (1776).

Left France to fight in America, where he was colonel and inspector general of Gates’s northern army (1777). Commissioned brigadier general (1778). Resigned and returned to France with Lafayette (1779).

Brother of René-Hippolyte Penot Lombart de Noirmont. Alternate form of the name: Laneuville, Louis-Pierre Penot Lombard.
