Hammond, John (b. c. 1734)

Maryland lawyer and legislator.

Practiced law in Annapolis with John Hall; their students included future Supreme Court justice Samuel Chase. Succeeded father as representative for Anne Arundel County in Maryland House of Representatives (1761). Popular leader and member of the anti- proprietary party.

Son of Philip and Rachel (Brice) Hammond of Severnhead, Maryland. Educated at Oriel College, Oxford, and the Middle Temple. Married Harriet Dorsey; three children.
