Hanbury, Capel (1707-1765)

M.P. and industrialist.

M.P. for Leominster (1741-47), then Monmouthshire (1747-65). Old Whig; sympathized with dissenters. Inherited and operated important ironworks in Monmouthshire and South Wales, producing tin plate and rolled sheet iron; also inherited extensive Monmouthshire lands from his brother Charles Hanbury Williams. Another branch of the Hanbury family moved to London and became leaders in the colonial tobacco trade.

Son of John and Bridget (Ayscough) Hanbury. Educated at Christ Church College, Oxford. Married Jane Tracy (1743); three children.
