Mathon de La Cour, Charles-Joseph (1738-1793)

Litterateur and philanthropist.

Invited Franklin to become a member of the Académie des sciences, belles lettres et arts de Lyon.

Contributed to the founding of the Société philanthropique. Founded a shelter for children and a school for the instruction of languages and sciences, both at his own expense.

Author of various works including, Testament de Fortuné Richard, maître d’arithmétique, (Lyon, 1785), which he sent to Franklin.
