Lining, John (1708-1760)

Physician and scientist.

A native of Scotland, Lining moved to Charleston, South Carolina in 1730. He wrote an influential tract on yellow fever and studied the effects of climate on health.

Correspondence with Franklin largely concerned electrical experimentation.

In 1739 he married Sarah Hill; the marriage produced no issue.
