Benger, Elliott (d. 1751)

Deputy postmaster general.

Immigrated to Virginia before 1728 and entered the service of Lieutenant Governor Alexander Spotswood. Deputy postmaster general (1743-51). Like his predecessor, Head Lynch, Benger required postmasters to submit bonds for faithful performance.

Scottish. Married Dorothea Brayne, Spotswood’s sister-in-law (1733 or 1734); they had at least one daughter.
