Hope, John (1725-1786)

Physician and botanist.

Used Franklin as an intermediary in communicating with Pennsylvania botanist John Bartram.

Professor of botany at the University of Edinburgh and superintendent of the botanial garden (1761). Associated with Alexander Dick in the cultivation of Tartarian rhubarb. Fellow of the Royal Society.

Born in Edinburgh. Married to Juliana Stevenson; five children.
